Snoop Dogg faces backlash after cancelling show in support of strikes

Snoop Dogg revealed yesterday that his much-anticipated Hollywood Bowl show, which was set to be produced by Dr. Dre, is officially cancelled as he put out a statement on Instagram saying: “We regret to inform you that due to the ongoing strike and the uncertainty of when this will be over, we need to cancel the Hollywood Bowl show.

“We continue to stand in solidarity with all of our brothers and sisters in the WGA and SAG-AFTRA during this difficult time and remain hopeful that the AMPTP will come back to the negotiating table with a REAL proposal and we can all get back to work.”

Fans were originally agitated when the show was postponed from June to October, but the outright cancellation brought an onslaught of criticisms against the 51-year-old.

Many in the comments unleashed their rage about the strike, with one claiming: “Rich folks fighting with rich folks but asking poor folks to give af! Pass.”(sic)

Another lashed out: “I love it when millionaires take a stand with other millionaires to support ppl who make 5k a week and only work half the year.”(sic)

A third raged: “CANCEL??????? We’ve been looking forward to this show for MONTHS!! Maybe I’m not understanding, but didn’t you just do a show the other day? What is the difference between that show and this show????? Location??”

Some fans were concerned about the staff and other people involved in Snoop’s concert, as one wrote: “But the poorer people who worked events are a**ed out!! Makes no senses.”(sic)

Another fan seconded this view, adding: “Thanks for s***ting on us workers snoop… Your strike is killing a whole job market.”

Many questioned if Snoop would be giving the same treatment to other worthwhile causes like climate change or poverty in Hollywood.

A follower requested: “After we are done supporting the strikes, we should put this much dedication towards helping homeless and low-income people!”

A second added: “Go On Strike Against The Child Predators in Hollywood!” while a third said: “Afterwards let’s put this energy into finding missing kids/adults.”

Despite the hundreds of followers lashing out at the rapper for cancelling the show, there were still supporters defending the star.

As more fans complained that the strikes, and Snoop’s solidarity, was simply the “rich fighting the rich”, one supporter penned a lengthy explanation: “Not all Hollywood writers are rich. Not all actors are rich. Not to mention all the other union members that are out of work. Productions have been shut down so set dressers, transport, lighting, food service workers, production and post-production audio workers- all out of work right now.

“So this goes much deeper than the few rich writers you interacted with. This goes way beyond the writers and actors.”

A few praised Snoop for standing in solidarity but still voiced their disappointment: “This was the only fun time I was going to have this year but If it has to be done, then so be it. Support the movement. Don’t let up.”

Another added: “Way to go Snoop! A man of the people!”
