‘Spectacular’ Acromazing win Australia’s Got Talent 2022

Australia crowned epic all-female acrobatic gymnastics troupe Acromazing its 2022 Australia’s Got Talent winner on Sunday night.

After six weeks of performances that were awe-inspiring, award-winning, record-breaking and sometimes just plain weird, the Wollongong acrobats took home the $100,000 grand prize.

Coaches Kim and Shelby were celebrating with around 230 family and friends when PerthNow spoke to them soon after the grand final aired.

“When Acromazing was announced I think the whole room lifted the roof off — it was just such a surreal moment,” Kim said.

“I’m so glad that we got to share the beautiful sport of acrobatic gymnastics with Australia and they obviously really enjoyed it,” Shelby added.

Everyone was holding their breath during Acromazing’s performance as they brought out their best but most terrifying stunts for the grand final.

Marley, one of the younger girls, even flew over the judge’s table.

Training in a cow shed since 1987, a part of the massive $100,000 prize will go to creating a new home for the troupe to practice in.

“We will probably be a little bit sad to see the old cow shed go but we definitely need to find a place where we can get a full gymnastics floor down,” Kim said.

Six acts competed for the title including Western Australian funnyman Emo Majok, Ukrainian aerial sensation Oleg; circus clown Walison Muh; 11-year-old rising pop star Sienna Kaitlyn; and undiscovered head-to-head balancing phenomenon Ramadhani Brothers.

The finale was a non-stop ride of spellbinding and gravity-defying performances as the unmissable acts stepped onto the AGT stage.

A regular on the Perth comedy scene, Majok admitted his frank style of comedy could make some people feel uncomfortable — but in fact it’s quite the opposite — his jokes resonate with audiences all over the world.

In the final he continued to crack jokes about the experiences he had as a Sudanese-Australian.

The Ramadhani Brothers went higher than they ever have before — balancing a short pole in between their heads with no other support.

Oleg dedicated his final performance to Ukraine searching for peace and hope. His act looked effortless as he remained stiff as a board while dangling on a pole mid-air.

The youngest ever AGT grand finalist Sienna showed off her powerhouse voice alongside her dad who played a rendition of You Say by Lauren Daigle on the guitar.

Walison Muh once again brought the art of mime to the AGT stage — using balloons in his final comedy act.

After the performances, Shane Jacobson along with Home and Away sweetheart Kate Ritchie and Britain’s Got Talent judges David Walliams and Alesha Dixon palmed off the difficult decision of who to crown the winner to the public.

On hearing Australia’s decision, Kim, Shelby, and the rest of the troupe were ecstatic.

“Something we can take away from this is that people do love to watch acrobatic gymnastics and it’s something that’s really spectacular, and we hope to be able to continue performing for people and just spreading joy,” Shelby said.
