Spurs risk missing out on fifth manager target Postecoglou in fresh development

Tottenham may miss out on their fifth managerial target in Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou after surprise team were linked to him. It comes after he quashed talk of a possible approach from the North London outfit.

Postecoglou is reportedly one of three managers on Tottenham’s shortlist to fill the vacancy left by Antonio Conte. According to the Telegraph, Spurs chief Daniel Levy wants either Postecoglou, Luis Enrique or Marco Silva. However, the Australian claims rumours linking him to the job “don’t register.”

“Someone else was favourite again last week,” he told assembled media. “It doesn’t register. I get why people like to speculate on these things and we have worked really hard to get into this position. For me, to let myself wander to anything other than getting our team prepared for a big day on Saturday is not who I am.

“You make it sound like it is the first time it has happened to me. We’ve done this dance a few times this year. The players are well aware of where my thoughts lie.” This comes after Spurs failed in approaches for Xabi Alonso, Arne Slot, Vincent Kompany and Julian Nagelsmann.

Although not all hope is lost yet as Postecoglou dismissed claims he would be sitting down with Celtic executives regarding a contract extension as well. “No, because that would mean me planning, organising, thinking about anything other than Saturday,” said the Aussie ahead of Celtic’s Scottish Cup final against Inverness on Saturday.

“For me I woke up this morning thinking about one thing, the same thing I’ve been thinking about for the last seven days. We want to make sure we play well in this cup final and make it a truly special season.”

If Postecoglou does choose to consider his options then Get Football News France claim Marseille are weighing up a move for him to replace their outgoing head coach, Igor Tudor. The French publication understands Marseille are “heavily leaning” on the CAA Sports agency to hire their next manager, which happens to represent Postecoglou.

Meanwhile, Marcelino Garcia Toral, formerly the manager of Athletic Bilbao, is also believed to be in contention for the role.
