Stellini hits out at Tottenham stars like Conte after Everton draw

Tottenham interim boss Cristian Stellini channelled his inner Antonio Conte after Spurs were frustrated away to Everton on Monday. The visitors were leading 1-0 against 10 men before Lucas Moura got himself sent off and Michael Keane’s effort from range ensured the Toffees would claim a point after Harry Kane’s penalty.

Stellini took aim at several of his stars in his post-match press conference, similar to how his predecessor did in their previous game against Southampton. He said: “Eleven against ten we have to control much better.”

Though despite claiming that his side needed to improve and control the game better against 10 men, he admitted that Spurs are still in a good position to get top four. “One year ago we had 51 points, we were fifth, today we are fourth with the same points as Man United and Newcastle,” Stellini added.

“My feeling now is that we have lost two points this evening because with 11 men against 10 we have to control the game much better. We try to but not the way I expect. After our red card the power of the game was with them. They find an amazing goal and they draw the game. We have to do much better.

“We tried to press them to not give much possession away but if you do this they kick long. We have to win the second balls and start again. We didn’t do good in possession. You control the game with the ball, not without.

“We have to control the game much better with the ball. We know when they play they kick long and they fight for the second ball. We were ready to do it but with 11 men we have to control the game much better.”

Both Abdoulaye Doucoure and Moura were shown red cards in the game, as the Everton man reacted badly to a Kane challenge and struck him in the face, then with minutes remaining Moura was given his marching orders for a foul on Keane.

Stellini admitted that both were worthy red cards, as he reiterated that he was disappointed with several of his players. “I think Harry Kane conceded a lot of tackles today and it was a red card,” he said. I also think Lucas Moura did a dangerous tackle and it was a red card.

“It was a tough game. It is not easy to come here and play against Everton. We play a good game and many situations with Pedro Porro, with Ivan Perisic and we should have created a lot. But when you play this game it is not easy. With 11 players my expectation is that you have to do much better.”
