Good news arrived for Art the Clown fans. According to Deadline, genre streaming platform Screambox has partnered with horror media brand Bloody Disgusting to acquire all North American rights to Terrifier 2. The slasher movie sequel will be released this Halloween season before streaming exclusively on Screambox. The film will play at multiple genre festivals this year as well.

“The Terrifier franchise embodies everything that’s great about the iconic slasher flicks of the 80s and 90s. It’s nostalgic, it’s dark, it’s bloody, so it’s no wonder the movie—and especially Art the Clown—have become a staple for horror and Halloween fans alike. Fans are not prepared for what they’re about to experience,” reads a statement concerning the release.

Priscilla Ross Smith of The Coven on behalf of the filmmakers and Brandon Hill on behalf of Screambox and Bloody Disgusting, negotiated the deal for the release. Currently, there isn’t an official release date for when Terrifier 2 should arrive in theaters. However, the article Bloody Disgusting released on their website stated that more details are forthcoming.

“Just like our incredible fan base, Bloody Disgusting immediately recognized the film’s franchise potential and acknowledged Art the Clown as a new and formidable presence in the genre. It was encouraging to find the perfect home for our batsh*t crazy, no holds barred, balls-to-the-wall horror film after three arduous years of production, a global pandemic and endless gallons of blood. Our goal was to create a horror film that was boundary-pushing, fresh yet old-school and demented as hell. You know…a film you can take the kids to! We are thrilled to finally answer that once dreaded question…’So, when does Terrifier 2 come out?” said writer/director Damien Leone.

What We Know About Terrifier 2

Since this is the first news we’ve heard on Terrifier 2 in a while, perhaps a refresher is in order. Franchise villain Art the Clown originally appeared in Leone’s short films, where Mike Giannelli played him. One of the shorts, Terrifier, was later included in Leone’s 2013 anthology film All Hallows’ Eve. Said short was adapted to feature-length in 2016, where David Howard Thornton now played Art.

Terrifier (2016) followed Art as he terrorized a group of people on Halloween night, such as Victoria Heyes (Samantha Scaffidi). In addition to Thornton, Scaffifi will reprise her role in the sequel. Other cast members that appeared in the preceding installment were Jenna Kanell and Catherine Corcoran, the latter of whom got sawed in half during the film’s most well-known scene.

Terrifier 2 will occur a year later after Art mysteriously resurrects after blowing his brains out at the end of the last film. This time, he’ll terrorize Sienna (Lauren LaVera), a teenage girl, and her younger brother Jonathan (Elliott Fullam). Felissa Rose from Sleepaway Camp and Tamara Glynn from Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers will also appear.

As previously reported, the rough cut of the sequel was 2 hours and 21 minutes, with Leone saying that the final runtime will remain over 2 hours long. Leone also promised an “EPIC scene” involving mass casualties and the location’s destruction. In the director’s words, “imagine if Art the Clown was in charge of the prom mayhem in Carrie…meets David Lynch…meets Maniac.”
