Succession finally came to a nail-biting close, and viewers were filled with a rollercoaster of emotions. The final episode showcased the final battle when it came to the future of Waystar Royco, as well as how it all ends for the Roy siblings. Second and final warning, spoilers ahead.
There are so many ways to explain what happened during the series finale. While there were times of bonding, everyone was also tested on where their allegiance lie. One common comparison that was made by fans is how this finale felt like they were watching Game of Thrones. At least Succession wasn’t as bad compared to the events that happened in season eight of its fantasy cousin. But then again, not everyone was happy with the outcome.
Fans were shocked to see Shiv deciding to not vote for her brother to become CEO, considering that they’ve bonded as siblings moments before the final climax. They poked fun at the staff that watched these siblings argue through the glass walls. And why wouldn’t they? These rooms aren’t soundproof, and they could clearly see them fighting about convincing Shiv to vote for him.
On the other hand, people were upset for Shiv since she was now stuck in an unhappy marriage, just like her mother. At the same time, people argued that she didn’t deserve this since they saw Shiv as a powerful woman, only for things to not go her way, especially since she won’t be CEO when the GoJo deal went through.
But what scared fans the most was what happened to Kendall after the deal went through. Since he couldn’t save his father’s company, people theorized that the guy would kill himself, just like what he said during his fight with his siblings. But at the same time, fans believed that despite how they didn’t like Shiv’s decision, she pretty much saved her brother from becoming another version of their father.
The series finale was met with mixed feelings, but nevertheless, it still received praise. Yes, the Roy siblings didn’t get the happy ending they wanted and pretty much lost the company their father built. But it was still an ending filled with emotion and drama and the actors put on a spectacular show for the finale.
Sadly, this means that this is the end of another great HBO series and there are no plans to create some sort of reboot or spin-off that features other characters. If you missed the series finale as it happened, the show is now available to stream in its entirety on Max.
