To start, it’s out with the cool-toned hues and in with the warmer ones for blondes, brunettes, redheads and every shade in between according to Matt Rez, the pro behind Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, and Eiza González’s rich, glossy lengths. “Warmth in hair color creates a sparkle, which is something all of us have been yearning for for quite some time now,” says Rez. “I think warmer color requests are representative of how much everyone has been wanting to come out of the dark side of things the last few years.”

This feel-good spirit, teamed with the “playful feeling for summer ingrained in us from childhood”—as Angela Hazelton, colorist at The Marie Robinson Salon, calls it—means we’re all experiencing an instinctive need for change. “It’s also easier to switch up your hair color when you have a summer glow to your skin,” adds Hazelton. Fellow New York-based pro Jenna Perry, Bella Hadid and Maude Apatow’s go-to colorist for cool nuanced shades agrees: There’s nothing like a fresh set of highlights to add extra pop to your summer look. “The sun is out longer in the warmer months, which means that it reflects brighter on your hair and skin,” says Perry. “With everyone’s skin tone appearing more sun-kissed, it’s an excellent time to enhance your hair.”

As the warmer months descend, one of Rez’s most in-demand hue is honey-gold bronde. “It’s that perfect marriage of blonde and brunette,” he says. “The background and depths of the silhouette are created with a medium to light brunette shade.
