Awards season has arrived! Over the next few months, Hollywood’s top stars will be making their rounds on the red carpets—leading up to the grand-final event, the Oscars. This plethora of step-and-repeats means that A-listers and their stylists are already busy doing fittings and gathering designer options. We got our first taste of what’s to come this week at various film premieres and the star-studded Palm Springs International Film Festival.
In Palm Springs, we saw a variety of fresh formal designs make their way to the carpet. Michelle Yeoh went for surrealism when she slipped into an ensemble from Schiaparelli’s fall 2022 couture collection. The beaded, cropped jacket and voluminous silk skirt added a dash of theatricality to the event. Cate Blanchett went the vintage route when she chose a deep-V pantsuit from Armani Prive’s fall 2009 couture collection—proving a good design will always stand the test of time.
Elsewhere, glimmering finishes hinted at more of what’s to come this awards season. At the 2023 New York Film Critics Circle Awards in New York City, for instance, Keke Palmer delivered a stellar maternity style moment when she rocked Michael Kors Collection’s sequin-covered gown. At a private Louis Vuitton dinner in Beverly Hills, Elle Fanning went for a more subdued shimmer—though her black Vuitton blazer and paillette-embellished skirt still shined just as bright.
