The Flash Figure for Supergirl Draws Criticism and Comparisons to Tom Holland

Action figure collectors are always paying very close attention to the detail of new releases, and because of this, there have been quite a few complaints about the design of a new figure released for Sasha Calle as Supergirl in The Flash. Per ScreenRant, Hot Toys recently unveiled their new figure release for Calle’s Supergirl. The problem here is that most fans just aren’t seeing the resemblance to the real person, as despite the Supergirl suit she’s wearing, the figure is reminding fans more of Spider-Man actor Tom Holland. Others are seeing Doctor Who and House of the Dragon star Matt Smith instead of Calle. In any guess, it would seem that the design has missed the mark in the opinion of many fans on social media.

It’s certainly not uncommon for action figures to be criticized for one reason or another. Sometimes, it’s the actors themselves who will have something to say. Another superhero movie actor weighed in back in early March with Jonathan Majors commenting on his Kang figure for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The actor told Stephen Colbert on The Tonight Show that the biceps were more “thin” than he would like, though he also said he would be doing all he could to get the toy if he were a kid.

Sasha Calle herself previously expressed how excited she was to receive another collectible based on her character in The Flash. In May, she took to Twitter to share some images of herself with an official Barbie doll from Mattel that’s designed to look like Supergirl. Calle also included a video clip of herself literally playing with the Barbie doll. There’s no word yet on how she feels about the Hot Toys figure above, but if nothing else, she was clearly ecstatic to have her own Barbie.

Tweeting the Barbie Supergirl photos, Calle wrote, “There’s a [Barbie doll] that looks like me.. I don’t know how to act. I’ve been taking her everywhere.. flying around and imagining laser eyes haha. Abrazos enormes!! Todavía no me la creo.”

Unfortunately, The Flash didn’t live up to studio expectations, winding up as a box office bomb that’s on track to lose some major money for Warner Bros. Discovery. For what it’s worth, that doesn’t seem to be because of Calle’s performance, as many filmgoers and critics have called her Supergirl one of the bright spots of the film. The movie underperforming might hurt the chances of Calle getting the chance to reprise her role in a new DC movie, but if she gets the call, she’s ready to suit back up.

“I love her so much and I feel her very deeply. I think this movie was a runway to a better story for her,” Calle said in an Entertainment Tonight interview. “I just want to dive deeper into Kara and her feelings into her day to day. I would just love to see her in regular clothes, in human clothes. As a fan, the whole time that I was filming, I kept thinking, ‘What would she wear? What glasses would she wear?'”

The Flash is playing in movie theaters.
