For five seasons, The Fosters fans watched as married couple Stef and Lena Adams Foster raised a blended family in San Diego made up of five children — four adopted and one biological. Starring Teri Polo, Sherri Saum, Hayden Byerly, David Lambert, Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez and Jake T. Austin (before he was replaced by Noah Centineo), the fan-favorite series premiered on June 3, 2013, and aired 104 episodes on Freeform before coming to an end on June 6, 2018.
When looking back on filming the final episode, the show’s executive producer Peter Paige opened up about the most emotional scene to film. “The empty house,” he told Entertainment Weekly in June 2018. “Of course, our very last shot was in Turks & Caicos, so that was pretty gutting, but in terms of the actual content that was challenging and difficult, it was definitely the empty house … I couldn’t even go to the stage when they tore down the sets. I couldn’t even look at it.”
Shortly after its series finale, The Fosters spawned a spinoff titled Good Trouble, in which Maia and Cierra reprised their respective roles as Callie and Mariana, and moved to Los Angeles. Although the show introduced a whole new cast of characters, fans of the OG series are often treated to epic Adams Foster family reunions with updates on their favorite characters. In fact, in February 2021, Good Trouble had one epic reunion when Connor (who fans haven’t seen since The Fosters season 3) seems to be back and better than ever!
“[These characters are] all really strong individuals, who want to make a difference in the world for themselves and for others,” Cierra told TV Insider ahead of the Good Trouble season 3 premiere in February 2021. “You’ll see that really be explored this season.”
The show’s executive producer, Joanna Johnson, also told TV Insider in February 2021 that the spinoff series is a “show is about relationships and the struggle for identity in your twenties, and the family that you make out in the world. I think as long as you focus it that way, it doesn’t become a show about issues. It’s still a show about people.” As it continues, fans love seeing what’s next for the Adams-Foster girls.
