Pakistan bowler Shaheen Afridi and India captain Harmanpreet Kaur were snapped up at the draft for the third edition of The Hundred.

Trent Rockets will bid to defend their men’s title this summer, while Oval Invincibles are going for a third successive title in the women’s competition.

The squads for the eight teams were all but finalised at a draft on Thursday, with The Hundred set to begin on August 1, shortly after England’s home Ashes series against Australia.

Welsh Fire, who finished bottom of the men’s competition last summer after losing all eight matches, signed Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen for £100,000.

A host of international stars failed to secure Hundreds contracts, however, with Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Australia T20 World Cup winner Marcus Stoinis passed up in the top price bracket of £125,000.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam, New Zealand bowler Trent Boult and West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell were also overlooked at a price of £100,000.

Each men’s side now has 14 players, with two more domestic players set to join the squads in the form of wildcard picks.
