HBO’s The Last of Us series has garnered widespread acclaim for its faithful adaptation of the beloved video game franchise. After a successful first season that concluded in March, showrunner Craig Mazin has promised fans that there is still “quite a bit of story to tell” and that the plan is not just for one more season. Speaking at a panel hosted by the National Association of Broadcasters in Las Vegas, Mazin confirmed that the show would be around for a while, signaling that there are multiple seasons in the works.

“Our plan is to do it not just for one more season. We should be around for a while,” Mazin said

The Last of Us follows the journey of Joel and Ellie in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a fungal infection that has turned most humanity into zombie-like creatures. The show is based on the hit video game series developed by Naughty Dog, which has won numerous awards for its storytelling and character development. The show’s first season was praised for its faithfulness to the source material while still taking creative license with certain details. Mazin confirmed that the show will continue to do so, suggesting that the upcoming seasons will be inspired by the game but not an exact retelling of it.

Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel in the series, has recently admitted that he has been avoiding audience reactions to the show’s first-season finale. In a recent interview, the actor said that he feels protected from the conversation and hasn’t been ready for the show to be over. Pascal has deliberately kept his distance from the finale and has not been impacted by public opinion. He has been actively avoiding finding out what people think, especially about a specific decision made by his character in the show.

“I feel protected from what the conversation is in a way. And I think that personally I haven’t really been ready for it to sort of be over, so I’ve kept my distance from its finale in a way. It hasn’t intruded upon my experience in terms of what people’s opinions for or against are, in terms of a very specific decision the character makes. I guess I’m actively being ignorant about how everyone feels about it, but it hasn’t been too hard to be, if that makes any sense. No one’s yelled at me in the street. Or been like, ‘How could you do that?’”

The highly anticipated second season of The Last of Us is expected to take place five years after the events of the first season, with a primary focus on Ellie’s journey. The introduction of a new character, Abby Anderson, who seeks revenge against Joel, further complicates the storyline. With the addition of new factions, the upcoming season promises a fresh and exciting narrative that will keep fans engaged with the same action, suspense, and moral dilemmas that made the first season such a hit. As the story progresses, viewers will be transported back into the post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us, where every decision has a consequence and survival is never guaranteed.
