A new study by U.K. card machine provider Dojo has revealed how much patrons should tip in Canada and beyond.

Dojo came up with a guide on the average tip in the most popular tourist destinations for restaurants, taxis, tour guides and household staff.

With 21,134,000 tourists a year to the country, Canada tour guides charge an average of $23.20 an hour, according to the guide. It said the average tip should be 10% ($2.32) to bring the total to $25.52.

It cited the average tips at restaurants in Canada (and in the United States, for that matter) to be 17.5%. That would be an extra $17.50 on a $100 bill. It noted that in many European countries the suggested tip should be 10%, while in many Asian countries (like Japan or Malaysia), the tip is usually included in the bill.

The guide listed a taxi fare for a five-kilometre drive in Canada at $12.48, with a suggested tip of 10%.

As for hotel staff, the suggestion was to tip $3.01 a day in Canada.

Dojo said it used Zbordirect to see the top 100 visited countries by tourists in the world. Dojo analysed Numbeo, Upgraded Points and Tripadvisor data to find the average tipping amounts in countries for taxis, hotel maids and restaurants. “These acted as a guide on the amounts and percentages which are suitable tips for restaurants, taxi journeys, hotel maids and tour guides in each country.”
