This video dates back to February 2021 and was from Tabuk in Saudi Arabia. According to reports, Saudi Arabia witnessed the first snow fall in a hundred years in 2013.

A viral video of camels resting during what appears to be heavy snowfall and blizzards is making the rounds on the internet. The 31-second video clip allegedly depicting heavy snowfall in the Arabian Desert, with three camels lying calmly in the snow. Users who shared the video claimed that the video captured Saudi Arabia’s first snowfall in a hundred years. The caption in the video states, “Saudi Arabia: snow falls for the first time in almost 100 years”.

Fact Check-

A simple reverse image search on Google led us to a tweet by the Arab News along with the viral video uploaded on 18 February 2021 with a caption Heavy snowfall on Wednesday night in #Tabuk northwestern #SaudiArabia 

In further search we discovered the same video uploaded on the Reuters YouTube account on 21 February, 2021, with the caption “Snow falls on camels in Saudi Arabia”. The description states “A group of camels were treated to a display of snowy weather in the mountains north of Tabouk, Saudi Arabia”.

We discovered that the video being circulated on the internet is from 2021 and is not current. The same video was featured in a Khaleej Times report published on 18 February, 2021, and it was said to be from Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. According to this report, heavy snowfalls and blizzards hit the neighbouring mountain region of Tabuk in the early morning of 18 February, 2021.

Are there snowfalls in Saudi Arabia?

While the Arabian Desert covers the majority of Saudi Arabia, snowfall is not an uncommon phenomenon in this part of the world, at least in the last decade.

Mirror article published on 16 December, 2013 is found carrying a video of snow in Saudi Arabia mentioning it as the Country’s first snow in 100 years. The article reported that Saudi Arabia has seen unusual weather in recent days, as snowstorm Alexa brought blizzards to Middle Eastern countries.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. This video is not recent and does not depict the first snowfall in Saudi Arabia in 100 years.
