This Cult-Favorite Detangling Brush is Now More Sustainable and Earth-Friendly

Wouldn’t it be great if every plastic-based product you love became plant-based? I often think about some of the products I use in my daily life, like my hairbrush, toothbrush, makeup brushes, and more, and realize that many of them are made of plastic. I’m hyper-aware of sustainability in other aspects of my life—I sort my recycling, I use reusable grocery bags, avoid single-use plastic, and more. I’m committed to making the swap with my beauty products as well.

Though it may seem like a small step in the grand scheme of things, Tangle Teezer is making their cult-favorite detangling hair brush more planet-friendly. Enter: the Plant Brush.

Tangle Teezer’s new Plant Brush is made of 85% castor beans that have been turned into bio-plastic. By making this swap, Tangle Teezer is taking a major step to reducing their carbon footprint. They’re also committing to a no-waste approach by turning any byproducts into fertilizer.

Other than the material switch, the new brush feels like the same brush that fans of the brand know and love. The Plant Brush still uses the two-tiered teeth technology that the other brushes use, meaning that there are both long bristles and short bristles on the brush. The long bristles detangle any snarls, while the short bristles help smooth the cuticle.

The brand is also phasing out all of their plastic packaging. By 2025, all Tangle Teezer products will come in unbleached, sustainably-sourced
cardboard. At this point, these kind of swaps feel like common sense fas we navigate a more sustainable future—hopefully more brands will follow in Tangle Teezer’s lead.
