Tottenham ‘make contact’ with Glasner as Conte’s future in doubt

Tottenham have reportedly made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Oliver Glasner as uncertainty surrounding Antonio Conte’s future goes on. Spurs chiefs are said to be discussing their next steps internally with pressure on the Italian high following his outburst after his side blew a 3-1 lead to draw with Southampton on Saturday.

It appears increasingly unlikely that Conte has any long-term future in north London with relations between the 53-year-old and the club turning increasingly sour. The Italian publically lambasted his players after draw with Southampton over the weekend with many fans and pundits calling on him to go.

Fabrizio Romano reports that ‘internal talks’ are ongoing over whether or not to sack Conte now ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season with Daniel Levy holding the final say.

Now, it appears the club have found a potential replacement should the chairman decide to pull the trigger with German publication Bild reporting that they have made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt boss Glasner. The 48-year-old has led his side to sixth in the Bundesliga this season and faced Tottenham in the Champions League earlier in the campaign.

He was also in the club’s hot seat for their Europa League winning success last year, beating Rangers in the final on penalties.

The Austrian’s current contract expires in 2024, potentially leaving the door open for Spurs to take advantage in the coming months.

However, he is not the only name to have been linked with reports also stating that the Lilywhites may try to approach former Barcelona and Spain boss Luis Enrique while an emotional return for Mauricio Pochettino has also been mooted.

Tottenham currently sit in the top four but all is not well with supporters increasingly unhappy with the brand of football that Conte has brought to the club. His rant following the match with Southampton at the weekend appears to be the final straw with the Italian putting full blame on his players.

“We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, I see players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart,” Conte said. “Maybe previously in the other games something can change. But here we’re used to it for a long time.

“The club has the responsibility for the transfer market, every coach that stayed here has the responsibility. And the players? The players? Where are the players? In my experience, I can tell you that if you want to be competitive, if you want to fight, you have to improve this aspect.

“And this aspect, I can tell you, in this moment is really, really low. And I see only 11 players that play for themselves.”

It remains to be seen what will happen in the coming days but it is increasingly clear that Conte will not be in charge at Tottenham for much longer.
