Townscaper VR Builds a Home on Meta Quest and PICO This October

Indie-specialist publisher and one-man-development team Oskar Stålberg have announced that Townscaper will be making the jump from consoles and PC to VR headsets with the upcoming release of Townscaper VR.

Townscaper VR will release on October 6th for Meta Quest and PICO virtual reality headsets, and it’ll bring a familiar yet new experience to players.

Townscaper doesn’t really have any goals and Townscaper VR won’t be any different in that respect. It’s a city-builder without a purpose. You simply pick the color you want your buildings to be and then lay down blocks and let the behind-the-scenes algorithm do the heavy lifting. You don’t need to worry about building hospitals, schools, roads, waterworks – nothing. Just pop your blocks down with a few clicks and watch pretty, colorful little towns get made before your eyes. It’s actually quite a quaint and relaxing experience and although there’s no challenge to be had, it’s a nice way to kill an hour or two.

Townscape was originally released in 2021 on PC via Steam and despite its simplicity and lack of challenge, the game was really well received by the community. This has led to some community-driven initiatives like custom mods and the sharing of creations to be used in other programs, such as Unreal Engine.

If you happen to be in Germany next week for Gamescom 2022, you’ll be able to give Townscape VR a go by visiting the Raw Fury booth at Hall 9.1, aisle B, number 049.
