It will be the first time Brits can travel directly there from the UK.

The new flights will connect the Egyptian resort of Luxor to Manchester Airport.

Popular holiday destinations in the country currently include Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada, both beachside resorts.

However, Luxor is also popular with tourists as it is home to popular attractions including the Valley of the Kings.

And the TUI flights will be part of the new River Nile cruises, setting sail from November 2024.

Exclusive charter flights will launch from Manchester and London Gatwick Weekly from November 7, 2024 until April 24, 2025.

Robert Smith, aviation director at Manchester Airport, said: “It is fantastic to see the addition of a Luxor service as part of TUI’s winter 2024 programme.

“It’s a brand new destination for Manchester Airport and one we are sure will prove extremely popular with passengers.”

Luxor was the pharaohs’ capital from about the 16th century BC to 11th century BC — and their remains are now a massive draw for tourists.

One of the main attractions is Luxor Temple, built by Amenhotep III in the 14th century BC.

On the opposite side of the bank, you’ll find the Valley of the Kings, where the mummies of pharaohs were buried with their jewels and supplies to get them through the afterlife.

The highlight is Tutankhamun’s tomb, the discovery of which shot British archaeologist Howard Carter to fame in 1922.

Another Egyptian resort is soaring in popularity this year.

El Gouna, a short drive from Hurghada, is a man-made lagoon with fancy hotels and restaurants.

We’ve rounded up some of the best deals, starting from £410pp.

Or you can spend two weeks in Egypt from £499pp – including a Nile cruise
