Take a trip in an ‘Air Taxi’

Soon, travellers will be able to jump into a plane as easily as they jump into an Uber. One air taxi company is on a pursuit to become the ‘Uber of the skies’, by launching a ‘sky-hailing service’.

Electron Aviation, a Dutch company, plans to launch its first electric air taxis in Holland in 2027, before bringing the ‘sky-hailing service’ to the UK, reports Daily Mail.

Called the ‘Electron 5’, the single-pilot air taxi will be designed to transport four passengers over 500km at a time and will offer a ‘personalised and efficient’ mode of transport at an ‘affordable price’. The plane will also be battery-operated and have zero direct CO2 emissions.

How will it work?

According to Electron Aviation, travellers will be able to book a trip through an app, travel to their local air taxi hub and board their private air taxi.

Ticket prices will be almost the same as that of business class seats for now, but the company plans to drop prices down to economy class levels within five years of operation.

Once built, the aircraft is said to feature panoramic windows and seats like in a luxury sports car with USB ports and foldable tables.

Josef Mouris, CEO and co-founder of Electron Aviation, said that the new aircraft will deliver on their goal of zero direct CO2 emissions.

“By embracing electric planes powered by renewable energy, we can ensure that our children, just like my two daughters, will enjoy travel without sacrificing our planet’s well-being. It’s time to redefine air travel and make it an incredible experience for generations to come!” Mouris said.
