Vasan Bala talks about the success of Monica O My Darling and its contribution to his career; says, “Now, at least, people call me and discuss my ideas” : Bollywood News – Bollywood Hungama

The song ‘Yeh Ek Zindagi’ from Netflix original Monica O My Darling ruled the internet ever since the film debuted on the streaming giant. The gripping story and noteworthy performance of the star cast managed to garner a positive response from the critics as well as the audience. With films like Peddlers and Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota in his repertoire, executing the Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte starrer was no less than a task for filmmaker Vasan Bala. Speaking of the same, Bala stated that it did change a lot of things for him.

It all happened during his chat with Free Press Journal, where he was talking about his latest project, a docu-series named Cinema Marte Dum Tak. While speaking about maintaining the storyline in his films, the director asserted, “Making such projects wasn’t a conscious decision. I feel, in cinema, you make films to express yourself. I have been around for a long time but I didn’t get any marks hence I thought, I will make whatever I love. I was all set to get rejected so there was nothing to lose. Cinema Marte Dum Tak also comes from within.”

Elaborating on the risk factors of the same, Vasan explained, “There are no set formulas to tell a story. Sameera, a friend pitched me an opportunity to build a docu-series. We spoke about the structure and every positive possibility. Earlier, you needed a Shyam Benegal or a Vijay Anand to make films but today one can just try because the culture has become more democratic.” Before signing off, he said, “Monica… actually gave me a little bit of confidence. Now, at least, people call me and discuss my ideas, which is great.”

Coming back to his latest release, Cinema Marte Dum Tak, it is a six-episode docu-series exclusively streaming on Prime Video.
