The cast and crew of Vera have been spotted filming at another venue in Gateshead for series 13 of the hit ITV crime drama.

Leading actress Brenda Blethyn, who plays DCI Vera Stanhope in the series, was seen filming “full-on” scenes at The Central Bar.

The pub’s landlord had to close the venue to the public so filming could take place in recent days.

Taking to Twitter, The Central Bar wrote: “Phew! Well, that was a full-on week what with the filming of #Vera here all day on Wednesday (have I mentioned that?)!

A collection of behind-the-scenes photographs were included in the Twitter post as well as a video of the crew filming outside the historic pub.

The name of the pub appears to have been changed to Griffin as part of the filming process for Vera.

Staff from The Central Bar took photos of Brenda with extras as they were on set for a couple of days, with Vera’s famous Land Rover parked up outside.

The venue thanked its regulars for being “understanding” about its closure and encouraged them to have a drink “next to the plant pot Brenda Blethyn once sat next to”.

The cast was also spotted in the centre of Newcastle, with some filming taking place next to Newcastle Quayside Law Courts at the start of July.

Vera and her co-stars have also been filming in North Shields, Wylam, Gosforth and Gateshead Metrocentre over the past few months.

Sharing her love for the North of England, Brenda said on The James Whale Show: “Yeah, I’d never been there before [Vera] and I love it there.

“It’s the best-kept secret and it’s absolutely… The territory is beautiful, but the people are nice too. I really like them!”

Brenda has played the titular character in the ITV drama series since its inception back in 2011.

Vera episodes are available to watch on ITVX.
