Vera fans may have caught a special glimpse of leading lady Brenda Blethyn if they were in the right area recently as viewers excitedly await series 13.

While the latest episodes ended with poor Vera Stanhope looking like she was going to be caught up in a murder investigation herself when the detective came across an abandoned car with a baby inside.

A body was also discovered near her home and the staple character was caught up in a vicious storm.

New pictures obtained by The Northern Echo show Brenda in a Newcastle restaurant filming some tense-looking scenes.

A filming crew can be seen in the photo surrounded by some of the cast.

Another snap shows Vera with returning favourite, David Leon, who will be reprising his role as DS Joe Ashworth after the character left in series four.

While Vera’s head is turned away from the camera, Joe looks very serious as he sits opposite his former boss.

With series 12’s ending keeping viewers eager for updates, the teaser photos seem to prove the Georgie detective will be in for some important conversations as she’s reunited with her old sidekick.

The pictures aren’t the first to pique fans’ interest, with DC Mark Edwards star Riley Jones, recently giving viewers an exciting glimpse of the upcoming episodes.

Locals instantly took a stab at guessing the location after Riley shared a photo, with many calling the setting “beautiful” .

Posting a picture of Vera’s staple Land Rover parked in front of a bridge in the blazing sunshine, Riley wrote: “Beautiful day filming! #Vera.”

Meanwhile, returnee Joe has been spotted elsewhere on set in recent weeks and was all-smiles as the actor makes his comeback.

The on-screen star looked to be in good spirits while chatting to Riley on set in Hexham.

It was announced earlier this year that a twist would see Joe making his return as DS Aiden Healy (played by Kenny Doughty), who will soon exit after eight years on the crime drama series.

Previous Vera episodes are available to watch on ITVx.
