Victor Wembanyama did not cement a Hall of Fame spot during his Summer League debut.
With more eyes than usual watching basketball in early July, the heavily hyped No. 1 pick tallied nine points, eight rebounds, and five blocks. He made just two of 12 field-goal attempts in a 76-68 San Antonio Spurs win over Brandon Miller and the Charlotte Hornets.
After the game, Wembanyama told reporters he was happy to win his first game in a Spurs uniform.
“It was really special to wear that jersey for the first time. It’s really an honor,” Wembanyama said, via CBS Sports. “Overall, I’m glad we won this game. There’s no better way to start for your premiere.”
"Honestly, I didn't really know what I was doing…I'm trying to learn."

However, the 19-year-old knows there’s room for improvement before the regular season starts.
“Honestly, I didn’t really know what I was doing on the court tonight, but I’m trying to learn for [the] next games.”
Per ESPN’s Andrew Lopez, Wembanyama admitted to feeling fatigued throughout the game.
“I think there’s a lot of conditioning to do,” Wembanyama said. “Especially with our play style, we run a lot. It’s really exhausting. Even though it was 40 minutes tonight, when I subbed out, I was always tired and exhausted. So I think there’s a lot of conditioning to do.”
A packed crowd flocked to Las Vegas’ Thomas and Mack Center for their first glimpse of Wembanyama. Expectations made it nearly impossible for the French sensation to satisfy everyone, but plenty of time remains for the 7-foot-5 newcomer to validate the buzz.
