NEW DELHI: Ignored by the national selectors for the New Zealand white-ball series and the first two Tests against Australia, Sarfaraz Khan came up with a strong response, firing yet another century in the Ranji Trophy against Delhi at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Tuesday.
In form of his life, Sarfaraz slammed his third ton of the ongoing Ranji season as his 125 took Mumbai to 293 all out on the opening day of the Delhi vs Mumbai match.
As Sarfaraz reached the three-figure mark, his emotional celebration said it all as his teammates went up in applause. Mumbai coach Amol Muzumdar was too in awe of his lad as he doffed his hat to Sarfaraz’s masterclass.

The Mumbaikar has been absolutely sensational in the last two seasons of India’s premier domestic competition.
The 25-year-old’s Ranji trophy scores since 2019 read – 71*, 36, 301*, 226*, 25, 78, 177, 6, 275, 63, 48, 165, 153, 40, 59*, 134, 45, 5, 126*, 75, 20, 162, 15*, 28*, 125 (today).
“When the team was announced and my name wasn’t there, I was very sad. Anyone in my place in this world would’ve been sad, because I had expected to be picked, but wasn’t (chosen). Yesterday, I was sad the whole day, when we travelled from Guwahati to Delhi. I was thinking about what and why it happened. I was feeling very lonely. I cried too,” Sarfaraz recently told TOI.
In 36 first-class games, the Sarfaraz has scored 3380 runs at an incredible average of 80.47.
In the last 2 Ranji Trophy seasons, Sarfaraz has been outstanding – 928 runs in 6 games @ 154.66, 982 runs in 6 games @122.75, and then 801 runs @89.00 in the current edition before the Delhi vs Mumbai match but continues to be out of the radar of the national selectors.
