‘We love Lewis’: Niall Horan leads crowd in chant for Lewis Capaldi

Niall Horan paid tribute to Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi on Friday evening, as he lead the TRNSMT crowd in a “we love Lewis” chant.

It comes after the Scottish star announced last month that he would be taking a break from touring for the “foreseeable future” amid issues with his mental and physical health.

Horan, 29, briefly interrupted his set on Glasgow Green to lead the chant, saying the star “will be back”.

He said: “I know this is on television. Our good friend Mr Capaldi is watching. Shall we give him a little shout?”

Thousands of Glasgow fans joined the former One Direction star in cheering “we love Lewis” before he continued: “He can hear us. I know he will.

“He’s in Bathgate and he can hear us loud and clear. He’ll be back. He’ll be back.”

Capaldi, who has previously opened up about his Tourette’s diagnosis, announced he would be stepping back after facing issues throughout his set at Glastonbury Festival last month.

In statement at the time, he said he was “still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s”, and needed a break to “keep doing everything I love for a long time to come”.

On Friday evening, Horan opened his TRNSMT set with Nice To Meet Ya, telling fans he had never experienced a crowd “so up for it”.

Claiming the show was just like playing in his home town of Mullingar, Ireland, he went on to sing the One Direction song Story of My Life and Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears For Fears.
