Wee Man Blasts Disney Over Snow White Remake

Summary

  • Disney’s live-action Snow White remake is facing criticism for various reasons, including the casting of Rachel Zegler as Snow White.
  • Actor Peter Dinklage called out Disney for their choice, stating that the story remains backward despite casting a Latino actress.
  • Another source of criticism stems from the decision to transform the Seven Dwarfs into magical beings, potentially affecting job opportunities for little people.

Disney’s live-action adaptations keep getting slammed. After the huge conflicts surrounding the Little Mermaid remake, the next classic from the House of the Mouse is also receiving negative comments. Snow White will be making her return to the big screen after being the first animated movie from the studio which kicked off a legacy that lives on to this day. But not even that can save it from controversies.

Rachel Zegler’s casting as the famous princess was the first stone in the shoe for the film, since many started to criticize the choice on social media. Last year, Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage slammed at Disney for deciding to do a live-action adaptation of Snow White and calling it progressive, claiming that the original story is offensive:

“They were very proud to cast a Latino actress as Snow White, but you’re still telling the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.’ Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way, but you’re still making that f*****g backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together. Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”

After that, the studio revealed that they would be taking a very different approach to the story and transform those Seven Dwarfs into seven magical beings, presenting a multicultural range of characters. But that may have created another problem.

Earlier this week, actor Dylan Postl shared his thoughts on Disney’s upcoming movie, and now Jackass star Wee Man was asked by TMZ about his opinion on the Snow White remake:

“It’s a bad thing. I’m not agreeing with it. One, because what they’re doing is pretty much replacing jobs that people could have as little people. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It’s for dwarfs.”

What to Expect from the Snow White Live-Action Remake

Snow White offered the poisoned apple by Evil Queen in the old hag disguise
Disney

Snow White has been in development since 2016, when Disney first announced they were doing a new version of their very first animated movie, and the studio has managed to keep most details under wraps. Of course, the story is already known by almost everyone, but there may be more changes than the one made to the Seven Dwarfs, and none has been revealed.

The live-action version will probably follow the plot of the original one, with Snow White being a young princess that ultimately represents a threat to the powerful Evil Queen (Gal Gadot) because of her beauty. Decided to be the most beautiful woman, she sends a huntsman to kill Snow White in the woods, but once he’s about to do it, he can’t and lets her go. That’s when the young girl meets the dwarfs and stays with them in their house. Once the Queen finds out Snow White is not dead, she goes after her disguise as an old lady, offering her a poisoned apple, which makes the girl fall into a deep sleep, until the kiss of a prince brings her back.

Joining Zegler and Gadot will be Andrew Burnap, Ansu Kabia, and Colin Michael Carmichael among others. Snow White is directed by Marc Webb, based on a script from Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.
