On Sunday (July 23), team India batters came up with a radical change in their batting as they scored runs at a blitzkrieg pace. India scored 181 runs in just 24 overs, before declaring the innings.

Ishan Kishan India vs West Indies

Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma came with all guns blazing. The pair added 98 runs for the opening wicket in just 71 balls. Jaiswal scored 38 off 30 balls, whereas captain Rohit Sharma notched another fifty as he scored 57 runs off just 44 balls.

Ishan Kishan, who is playing his 2nd Test match, then went on to score his maiden Test fifty, scoring an unbeaten 52 off just 34 balls. The only batter with a strike rate under 100 was Shubman Gill, who got his 29 off 37 deliveries.

And after this approach, the Indian fans and experts have come up with a new name called Dravball.

What is Dravball?

‘Dravball’ is a term that the Indian fans have adopted from the cricket dictionary. It depicts India’s aggressive approach with the bat and comes from the name of India’s coach Rahul Dravid.

Dravid’s initials are used with the term ball, which kind of commemorates the Indian coach as the playing style is under his tutelage. Dravball is also an unfamiliar approach from Indian cricket as the Indian coach never was an aggressive player during his playing days, but may be willing to come up with a new approach as a coach.

Why are Indian fans comparing it to Bazball?

The Indian fans have started to compare with Bazball, a term which is associated with the England cricket team. The English team’s aggressive approach in Test cricket and fast scoring rate while batting is termed Bazball, the name which comes from their coach Brendon McCullum.

Indian fans are comparing Dravball with Bazball for its similarities in playing style. But it is too early to say whether the Indian team will continue to play with the same approach.

Dravball vs Bazball – Which is Better?

When it comes to India’s batting style, Dravball looks like a one-off. While for England, the Bazball is more of a consistent approach when it comes to batting.

One thing for sure, we won’t see Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli throwing their bats at everything irrespective of the conditions. It will be more of a situation-demanding approach and if that arises, we may see the team going all guns blazing.

And perhaps that is the reason that Dravball is a better option than Bazball. Bazball has the compulsion to go berserk, but Dravball probably allows players to play according to conditions.
