Manchester City and Arsenal are in the most dominant positions out of the Premier League quartet, and only a severe collapse in form will likely see them fail to advance in the competition.
Manchester United and Newcastle, meanwhile, have plenty of work left to do, but their fate remains very much in their hands.
Here are the Champions League group stage permutations and what all four English clubs need to do to qualify for the knockout rounds.
Manchester United
United are currently sat in third place in Group A with three points – one point behind Galatasaray and six behind group leaders Bayern Munich.
Rather simply, Manchester United will qualify if they win all of their remaining games.
Wins over Copenhagen and Galatasaray are almost a necessity, given United host Bayern at Old Trafford in their final game, and six points in their next two games would leave them in the top two as they prepare to host the German giants.
If Bayern beat Galatasaray in two weeks time then six points from the clashes with the Turks and Copenhagen will be enough to secure progression.
Arsenal
Arsenal occupy the summit of Group B with six points, one point ahead of Lens and four ahead of Sevilla and PSG.
The Gunners host Sevilla at the Emirates in two weeks time knowing that victory would put them on the brink of securing their passage to the knockout round.
That would leave them seven points ahead of the Spanish outfit, with just two games remaining against Lens and then PSV.
Arsenal will actually qualify with two matches left if they beat Sevilla and PSV lose to Lens.
Manchester City
The reigning European champions have made light work of Group G so far, picking up a maximum of nine points in their fixtures against Leipzig, Young Boys and Red Star Belgrade.
Leipzig lead the chasing pack with six points, whilst Young Boys and Red Star Belgrade are marooned on one point apiece.
City will qualify with a win against Young Boys at the Etihad, whilst one point will also be enough if Red Star don’t beat Leipzig.
If Pep Guardiola sees his men fall to a shock defeat against the Swiss outfit, they would need three points from their remaining games to guarantee progression.
Newcastle
Newcastle, enjoying their first Champions League group stage campaign since the 2002/03 season, find themselves in third place in the so-called ‘Group of Death’.
The Magpies sit third with four points in Group F, level with second-placed Dortmund who beat them on matchday three, but only two behind leaders PSG.
Eddie Howe knows that maximum points between now and the end of the group stage will see them remain in the competition after Christmas, but defeat in the reverse game against Dortmund in a couple of weeks would prove costly.
In that scenario, Newcastle would likely then need a minimum of four points from their final two fixtures against PSG and Milan.
