India’s Lahore-born right-arm pacer Mohammad Nissar picked five wickets in the first innings. Captain CK Nayudu and Amar Singh

picked two wickets apiece.

In reply India were bundled out for 189. Nayudu top-scored with 40 runs, while Naoomal Jeoomal and Syed Wazir Ali scored 33 and 31 runs respectively.

In the second innings, England piled up 275 runs for the loss of eight wickets before declaring their innings. Lahore-born India pacer Jahangir Khan was India’s leading wicket-taker in the second innings. He picked four wickets. Gujarat-born pacer Amar Singh again picked two wickets.

Chasing a target of 346, India succumbed to a 158-run defeat after getting all-out on 187. In the second innings for India, Syed Wazir Ali scored 39 runs, while Lall Singh chipped in with 29 runs. The innings witnessed Amar Singh become first Indian to score a test fifty. He scored a fighting 51 batting at nine but could not save India from a heavy defeat.
