Why Aus Post is rolling out CHANGE ROOMS for shoppers

With online shopping increasingly the norm, Australia Post is looking to include changing rooms in stores to let people try on their new clothes.

The first-of-its-kind store is opening in Orange, NSW, in July and will allow customers to immediately return online purchases if they don’t fit.

The new concept store will also offer a range of products from local sellers.

Australia Post parcel, post and e-commerce manager Gary Starr said they were testing a whole lot of new concepts.

“There’s a change room, so I can order online and have it delivered to that community hub post, try it on and if it’s great, you can take it home, if not, then I can hand it straight back over the counter and it goes back to the retailer and I can get my money back quicker,” he told The Herald Sun.

“There has been a friction point for online shopping [with the hassle of returning items] but we do believe that will lead to greater, better sales for the online retailer and a more convenient experience for the consumer.”

The new concept store comes after the 2023 Australian Online Shopping Report revealed Aussies were shopping more than ever before with 9.4 million households shopping online in 2022, making up over 18 per cent of all retail sales.

An increase of 1.7 per cent was mainly due to more spending on fashion, which was up 17.4 per cent, and food and liquor stores, which jumped up 11.4 per cent.

Home and garden brought in the most money at $18.7 billion.

Online shopping was up 11 per cent in Western Australia, with Mandurah buying the most in the State.
