An underrated relic from the Y2K era—cargo pants—has decidedly reinstated its position in the trend cycle over the last several seasons. This utilitarian icon is recognizable by its roomy silhouette and numerous pockets and hits its stride in summer when the baggy silhouette can be contrasted with a slim, lightweight top. Plus, when crafted in denim, cargo pants are rendered all the more versatile.

Available in a swath of washes and with varying degrees of pockets and utility loops, the 20 pairs of cargo jeans ahead lend a laidback essence. At Alex Mill, creative director Somsack Sikhounmuong translates the look with non-stretch denim and a relaxed straight leg, while STAUD details a pair of light wash jeans with three side patch pockets for a workwear-inspired finish.
