Youngster Harry Morris took full advantage of a day on the water out from Rockingham to record an absolutely incredible catch.
The 12-year-old is an extremely keen young angler and headed out with his dad, Kevin Morris, and his partner Toni-Lee Compton during a Mangles Bay Fishing Club event.
The trio headed out deep dropping and young Harry somehow pulled a fish as big as himself from the depths.
He was using a whole tailor as bait in 400m on a Shimano Beastmaster electric reel and Tanacom Bull rod spooled with 36kg braid.
At first, they thought he was snagged on the bottom until he started losing line.
It took Harry almost an hour to get the stubborn fish up.
Eventually, a huge bass groper floated to the surface 30m from the boat.
Harry was thrilled, with the fish later weighing in at an impressive 52.8kg.
Only the 100kg marlin he caught at Exmouth was bigger.
On arrival back at the fishing club the word had spread and everyone was excited to see the catch, with Harry receiving many cheers and congratulations.
Harry has also won a Shimano lure wrap tackle box, which he can pick up from any of WA’s three Compleat Angler and Camping World stores, plus he is in the running to win the monthly prize of a Shimano combo.
