General Motors appointed Leon Li president of its premium import business in China, known as The Durant Guild.

The appointment is effective on August 1, GM’s China unit said this week.

Li has served as president of Rolls-Royce Greater China since 2014 and previously held several senior management roles with BMW Group, according to GM China.

GM created The Durant Guild in September 2022 as a wholly-owned digital platform to drive exports of high-end models and performance vehicles in China.

The Durant Guild’s first president was Felix Weller.

At the 2022 China International Import Expo, an event held in Shanghai in November, The Durant Guild announced the Cadillac Celestiq, an ultra luxury electric sedan built in Warren, Mich., would become the first model imported to China.

At the event, The Durant Guild also displayed the GMC Hummer electric SUV and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 sports supercar.
