Bumrah last played a match for India in September 2022. After missing the Asia Cup 2022 matches, he made an unsuccessful attempt for a comeback in the T20I series against Australia before the T20 World Cup 2022.
Another comeback attempt was made in January ahead of the ODI series against Sri Lanka but Bumrah’s was ruled out just before the start of the series. Later, Bumrah missed the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy, IPL 2023 and the WTC Final against Australia.
The 29-year-old, who underwent a back surgery in March, wasn’t named in matches for West Indies as well. However, Jay Shah has confirmed the Mumbai Indians (MI) pacers much-awaited comeback ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023.
Shah did not give any update on Prasidh Krishan, another pacer who is on course to become full fit. The likes of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are also in the final phases of their rehabilitation and expected to make a comeback ahead of the World Cup 2023 which start in India from October 5.
The Asia Cup 2023 starts from August 30. India will play a total of six matches in the series if they qualify for the finals. India and Australia will lock horns in 3-match ODI series starting September 22 ahead of the ICC marquee event.
“Bumrah is completely fit, and he may be part of the Ireland series,” Shah stated. This website had reported on June 24 that the BCCI and the team management were targeting the Ireland series for Bumrah’s return, and he is expected to play in the three T20Is in Dublin on August 18, 20, and 23.
