United boss Erik ten Hag has made the Atalanta star his first choice striker target having been priced out of any move for Tottenham star Harry Kane.
The Premier League side have submitted an offer of €50million plus €10m in add-ons for the 20-year-old with Atalanta believed to be holding out for a deal closer to €70m.
PSG made their move on Thursday making a bid of €50m, one that falls short of Atalanta’s asking price and the bid tabled by United.
The French champions are still awaiting a response from Atalanta but will not increase their offer and walk away from the deal if it is rejected.
Their efforts to sign the 20-year-old look bleak in any case however with L’Equipe reporting Hojlund, aware of PSG’s offer, still favours a move to Old Trafford, even if his representatives are approached to discuss personal terms.
Foot Mercato also report Hojlund is ‘flattered’ by PSG’s interest but remains firmly focused on joining United.
Hojlund has already agreed personal terms with United over a five-year deal at Old Trafford, which will include the option of a further 12 months.
United have made two signings this summer in bringing Mason Mount and Andre Onana to the club from Chelsea and Inter Milan respectively with ten Hag explaining this week the club are ‘making progress’ in their bid to bring in another forward option.
‘The only thing I can say is we do everything that’s in our power to get that done,’ ten Hag said.
‘If it was up to me, yeah, as soon as possible. The earlier the better because we have to integrate him in the team, the way of play.
‘In an ideal situation, he was already here but you do not always get ideal situations as a manager and you have to deal with the situation.’
