NEW DELHI: West Indies cricketer Devon Thomas has been charged with match fixing by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and has been provisionally banned from playing, the ICC announced on Tuesday.
The ICC has filed seven charges against Thomas, which include allegations of attempting to fix the outcome of matches and obstructing investigations by tampering with or destroying evidence.
Four of the charges are related to matches in the Lanka Premier League Twenty20 tournament that took place in Sri Lanka in 2021. Two charges pertain to matches in the Caribbean Premier League T20 competition, also held in 2021, while one charge is associated with matches in the T10 Cricket League in the United Arab Emirates, also in 2021.

Devon Thomas, aged 33, has been given a period of 14 days starting from Tuesday to respond to the charges, as stated by the ICC, which is headquartered in Dubai.
Although Thomas has played 21 one-day internationals, his last appearance was a decade ago. He has participated in 12 T20I matches for the West Indies between 2009 and 2022. He made his only Test appearance against Australia in December.
The charges against Thomas reflect the seriousness with which the ICC addresses issues related to match fixing and the preservation of the integrity of the sport. The case will undergo due process, with Thomas having the opportunity to respond and present his defence.
